System Organisation at National Level
Inter-agency Steering Committee (IASC):
Following 4 agencies with ISRO as nodal agency (Headed by Chairman, ISRO) constitute an Inter Agency Steering Committee (IASC) for operations and management of the programme in India:
- Directorate General of Shipping
- Airports Authority of India
- Coastguard
- Defence (Army, Navy, Airforce)
Each agency contributes for operations and maintenance of the system. Initial cost of setting up the system was also funded by these agencies
IASC Objectives:
- To setup and Operationalise the system initially
- Provide Funding Support for operations and maintenance of the system
- Implement National and International Policy Regulations (beacon carriage requirements, coding and registration)
- Inter Agency Coordination to ensure smooth operations, data utilization
- Review periodically the status of operations and developments and provide necessary direction/guidance
