Guidelines for Beacon Registration
- Information contained in this form is critical to your safety and to successful search and rescue (SAR) response. You may use this form to register a maritime distress beacon (EPIRB), an aviation distress beacon (ELT) or a personal locator beacon (PLB).
- The registration information is very useful to conserve SAR resources by helping to eliminate false alerts, as an inadvertent activation can be resolved with a phone call.
- For PLB, provide the details for which PLB is used under “Vehicle Usage”.
- Fill the appropriate information as applicable for EPIRB/ELT/PLB, and leave blank, whichever are not applicable.
- Any change in information regarding currently registered beacons should be updated immediately in the database to maintain the information up-to-date.
- If the vessel/EPIRB scrapped/sold, please provide purpose for which the beacon is decommissioned under “Remarks”.
- If vessel/aircraft is sold to foreign owner, deregister the beacon at INMCC and advise new owner to change the beacon or re-programme (recode) the existing one with the new country code and reregister with the country concerned. If it is sold within the country, provide details of new owner
- If the vehicle is scrapped, destroy the beacon and deregister at INMCC
- Periodic confirmation of registration data is requested every two years
- In case of false activation, please inform nearest MRCC/RCC with information to INMCC.
- If beacon is found to be active inadvertently for more that 4 hours, please replace the beacon battery as soon as possible to ensure its working in an real emergency situation
- If you have any questions regarding your registration, please contact us by email/ phone/ fax.
